September 23 and 24, 2007

Sunday, September 23

Starting Point: Whitewater Gorge -  Star Piano Factory, 2nd street Richmond, Indiana

            7:30 a.m.  Registration of walkers and sunrise service
            8:00 a.m.  Walk begins.  Going south through the gorge to Test Road.  East on Test Road to Liberty Avenue. South on Liberty Avenue to US 27.  South on US 27 to the Wayne-Union County line.  Walk ends here today.

Monday, September 24

            Starting Point:  The Vinton House, US 40, Cambridge City

            7:30 a.m.  Registration of walkers

            8:00 a.m.  Walk begins.  Go east on US 40 to Boyd Road.  Go south on Boyd Road to SR 1.  Go south on SR 1 through Milton and to the Wayne - Fayette County line.

Tuesday, September 25
Starting Point; H & E Machine parking lot north of Connersville on State Road 1


7:30 a.m. Registration of Walkers
8:00 a.m. Walk begins. Leaving the parking lot of H & E Machine going south on SR 1 to Western Ave. Go South on Western Avenue pass the CEC building to SR 121. Go South on SR 121 to the whitewater Valley Railroad Yard. Walk ends here for the Day. Total miles – approximately 5
 

Wednesday, September 26
Starting Point: Whitewater Valley Railroad Yard south of Connersville on SR 121.


7:30 a.m. Registration of Walkers
8:00 a.m. Walk begins. Leaving the parking lot of the WWVRR go south on SR 121 to the Fayette – Franklin County line. Walk ends here for the day. Total miles – approximately


Thursday, September 27
7:00 p.m. Press Conference and ‘Celebration’ of Fayette County’s assets to be held at the CEC Building 3013 Virginia Ave., Connersville
 

Whitewater Walk
Union County
September 25th and 26th 2007

 

Tuesday, September 25

Starting Point:  Abbington General Store, Abbington – Wayne County Union County Line

7:30 a.m.  Register Walkers

8:00 a.m.  Walk begins.  Go south on Abbington Pike until it changes to Brownsville Road.  Continue south on Brownsville Road to The Town of Brownsville.  Turn east on Old Brownsville Road and follow to Liberty and US 27.  Turn right on US 27 follow to the Blue Heron Gallery.  Walk ends here today. Total miles approximately 10.5.  Tour by car to points of interest in Liberty.

 

Wednesday, September 26

            Starting Point:  Office of the Whitewater State Park at the entrance.

            7:30 a.m.  Register Walkers

8:00 a.m.  Walk Begins.  Go south on SR 101 to Roseburg.  Go west on Dunlapsville Road and follow to Dunlapsville and the Treaty Line Cabins.  Cross over road and go down to the Quakertown Marina where you will load on pontoon boats to ‘walk the lake’.  Go south on the lake till you come to the Dam at Brookville. ‘Walk’ ends here today.  Total miles approximately 21.5.  Return to starting point by boat.

6:00 p.m.  Press Conference and  ‘celebration’ of Union County assets, Ainsley’s Cafe

 

September 29th and 30th. Satellite Walk

For those of you who would like to walk the Whitewater Walk through Union County but cannot walk September 25th and 26th, Union County is offering the walk again on the weekend. You'll will follow the same routes as earlier in the week.

Boat rides will also be available on the Sunday walk as was on Wednesday. Pre-registration is required for the Satellite Walk.

Thursday, September 27
Starting Point; Laurel Community Library, 200 N. Clay St, Laurel

7:30 a.m. Registration of Walkers
8:00 a.m. Walk begins. Leaving Laurel Community Library going east on Pearl Street towards the river bridge. Turn south on Dam Road. Follow Dam Road pass the Whitewater Canal Feeder Dam to the end of Dam Road. Walk the railroad track to U.S. Highway 52. Go west on U.S. 52 one-tenth mile to Pennington Road. Turn right on Pennington Road and follow through Metamora to the trail head of the Whitewater Canal Trail. Follow the Whitewater Canal Trail from Metamora to Shack Road. Go east on Shack Road to U.S. 52. Go East on U.S. 52 and continue walking on U.S. 52 to the Yellow Bank Trail head of the Whitewater Canal Trail. Walk ends here today. Total Miles - approximately 14.5


Friday, September 28th
Starting Point; Yellow Bank Trail Head of the Whitewater Canal Trail on U.S. 52

7:30 a.m. Registration of Walkers
8:00 a.m. Walk Begins. Follow Whitewater Canal Trail to the end. Cross through the James Cox property to U.S. 52. East on U.S. 52 to Brookville. Follow U.S. 52 through Brookville to Blue Creek. Turn right on Blue Creek at the IGA Store and follow Blue Creek to the Franklin County Fairgrounds where the Franklin County Farm Machinery and Antique Tractor Show is being held. Walk ends here. Enter Show and enjoy the rest of the day. Total miles approximately


7:00 p.m. Press Conference and Celebration of Franklin County’s Assets held at the Franklin County Community Foundation 517 Main Street, Brookville
