In the 1800s, the Huddleston family’s farm in Cambridge City served as a
resting place for tired travelers along the newly developing National Road,
which now is designated as one of America’s Byways. Travelers were welcomed to
meals, provisions, and shelter for themselves and their horses at the
Huddleston Farmhouse.

The 1841 Huddleston Farmhouse Museum tells the story of John and Susannah
Huddleston and their 11 children, as well as the tales of travelers who
crowded the farm’s porches and yard and rented the two “travelers’ kitchens”
for cooking and sleeping. Tours are available of the Huddleston’s farmhouse
and the barn, outbuildings and grounds, which are owned and restored by
Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana. Visitors also can enjoy special
events, historical exhibits, and workshops for adults and children.
